Yesterday, we saw the conclusion of the 14th Hotel Asia Exhibition and International Culinary Challenge 2018. Held in Dharubaaruge from 9th-12th October, it saw the participation of more than 600 local and expatriate chefs from all over the Maldivian F&B industry. Certified by the World Association of Chefs Societies, the culinary challenge had a judging panel of renowned chefs from all over the world.
Hotel Asia has now become an annual hub for professionals who want to promote their products within the hospitality industry. The culinary challenge is also a wonderful opportunity for chefs to make their mark in the industry, impress culinary experts or simply have a learning experience.
Judge Rohan Fernandopulle remarked how this challenge allows industry experts to identify local talent and that hopefully Maldivian chefs will soon be seen in the executive chef position.
The exhibition saw the largest turnout on Friday as the general public poured in to visit the variety of stalls at the event. People were excitedly trying out samples of truffle sauces, exotic cheeses, vegan sausage, spicy scorpion hot sauce, Movenpick ice cream and specialty drinks like mojitos to lattes.
Sponsored by Best Buy Maldives, the event was arranged by Maldives Exhibition and Conference Service (MECS) in collaboration with Sri Lankan Exhibition and Conference Services (LECS) and Indian Exhibition and Conference Services (IECS). Next year will mark the 15th year anniversary of Hotel Asia exhibition so it is safe to say that it will be an event worth looking forward to.
