To celebrate World Nutella Day, we are bringing you a simple recipe that’s been tried and tested (and loved by many). It’s a twist on the classic chocolate brownie recipe. No special equipment or baking skills required, we promise.
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 20 -30 minutes
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup soft brown sugar
I teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup Nutella
3/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 180°C. Line an 8-inch square pan with foil or baking paper. With a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat the butter on high speed for about two minutes or until smooth and creamy. You can also use a whisk if you have strong arms. Add the eggs one at a time, with the mixer on low speed. Beat until combined. Mix in the Nutella and vanilla extract. Add the flour, all at once, and the salt, and slowly mix with a spatula just until combined. At this point you can add nuts or chocolate chips, or both, if you prefer.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan, and smooth the top with a spatula. For more hazelnut goodness, you can dot the batter with more Nutella and make swirls with a knife. You can also sprinkle sea salt on top if you prefer.
Bake for about 25 to 30 minutes. Be sure to check the brownies after 20 minutes. They are ready when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few wet crumbs. They might take longer to bake, depending on your oven.
Leave to cool in the pan before cutting them into squares. Enjoy!
